The Silhouette Tradition:
The term Silhouette refers to a widespread form of portraiture in which the subject's profile was traced against black paper, cut out and then pasted against a light background. This technique was named after mid-18th century French finance minister, Etienne de Silhouette. Silhouettes were highly popular in America, from about 1790 to 1840 before the invention of the camera.
Painted Pet Silhouettes embrace this traditional approach to image making while creating a uniquely modern work of art.
Painted Pet Silhouettes:
These original portraits are painted matt black on a rich background, replacing the traditional cut paper technique. Each one is individually crafted to compose a striking representation of your pet.
